Austin ThomasSamsung outed the Windows Mobile 6.1 update for the Blackjack II (i617) last month, and I've recently undertaken the task of installing the ROM on my Samsung Blackjack II. The update brings with it a host a tweaks, including threaded text messaging, as well as a new homescreen. The WM6.1 ROM also brings back the Internet Connection Sharing that was present in the first Blacjack, but subsequently crippled in the Blackjack II. The Internet Connection Sharing feature allows you to connect your Blackjack II with your computer via USB, and use the AT&T network for internet access.

After installing the upgrading Windows Mobile to 6.1, and using it for just a couple of hours, my reaction is this: Bravo!. Although I am not usually enthusiastic about Microsoft products, the guys in Redmond really stepped it up this time, bringing enhanced functionality to Windows Mobile. This update was available months ago, but before Samsung can release the update, they are required to get the "green light" from AT&T (the carrier supporting these phones). This was my only complaint- customer's buying new Blackjack IIs were getting the updated Windows Mobile, while those of us that have had the phones for months are made to wait on the update. Tsk-Tsk- Samsung, Microsoft, and AT&T, you guys can do better than that.
